I’ve often seen this eye-catching car driving through the streets of Bristol, but today was the first time I’d had the opportunity to see it up close.
C794 GOV is a Ford Capri 2.8 Injection from 1985. It’s a really well presented car, with paintwork like glass and none of the usual rust scabs that you’d expect from a Capri. The half leather Recaro interior looks similarly mint.
It looks like this example has been fitted with the larger 15in, 7-spoke wheels that Ford fitted to then run out 280 Brooklands models, albeit with RS centre caps. I bet the subtle stainless steel aftermarket exhaust sounds excellent too.
As the name suggests, these Capris were powered by Ford’s fuel injected 2.8l Cologne V6 which replaced the long running 3.0l Essex V6 engine. This cleaner, more powerful engine allowed the Mk3 Capri to remain in production for a few years longer than Ford originally intended.
Ford’s marketing genius really came into play with the Capri. Dubbed ‘the car you always promised yourself’, the Capri was an attainable sports coupe with iconic looks and genuine motorsport pedigree. The 2.8 Injection in particular got a very memorable TV advert too.
Capris of any kind are now a really rare spot on British roads and their values have soared to reflect this.
