Parked in a quiet Bristol cul-de-sac was this delightful Austin Mini.
Being a 1963 car, this Mini is an Mk1 and thus has lots of subtle styling differences compared to later cars. Notice the round rear lamps, sliding windows and – had there been a grille fitted – it would’ve had the distinctive ‘moustache ends’ which were styled out of later cars.
Under the bonnet will be an 848cc version of Austin’s A-Series that was good for a claimed 34hp and famously shared its oil sump with the Mini gearbox. 984 HOH also predates the unconventional hydrolastic suspension system that these cars later became synonymous with.
The MOT history for 984 HOH stops back in 2014 where an odometer reading of 52,084 miles was recorded. What’s surprising is there isn’t a single mention of rust – even going as far back as 2006 when MOTs first became recorded online.
It’s clear now that corrosion has taken hold in several of the usual places, so hopefully the owner will give this mini the attention it deserves.
